Much anticipated WPL 2024 start date is officially announced. The defending champions, Mumbai Indians, are set to lock horns with the 2023 runners-up, Delhi Capitals, in a thrilling encounter that marks the commencement of the tournament on February 23.

 Important points to note from WPL 2024 schedule

The second edition of Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 is scheduled to start on February 23 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and conclude on March 17 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The opening game in Bengaluru will replicate the championship game from the previous year, with the WPL 2023 champion Mumbai Indians facing the Delhi Caps, who finished second in the WPL 2023.

The Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz are the five teams that are participating in the 2024 WPL. M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru will host the matches until March 4. The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will host the tournament's remaining matches.

The upcoming season promises to be even more exhilarating with five teams playing for supremacy over the course of 22 intense matches. The grand finale is scheduled for March 17. Unlike the previous season, which unfolded exclusively in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, the 2024 WPL will unfold across two dynamic venues: Bengaluru and Delhi.

WPL 2024 Venue and Match Schedule:

The tournament's first half, featuring the initial 11 matches, will be hosted in Bengaluru, while the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi will come alive for the final 11 games, including the crucial knockout matches. From February 23 to March 13, each day will witness a league-stage game, ensuring a daily dose of cricket excitement without any double-header days. The Eliminator is set for March 15, paving the way for the ultimate showdown on March 17 in Delhi.

After the WPL 2024 start of the  opening match on February 23 we  will see Royal Challengers Bangalore taking on UP Warriorz on February 24.. Gujarat Giants will join the action on February 25, facing off against Mumbai. The Delhi leg of the tournament kicks off on March 5, featuring a high-stakes encounter between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians.


WPL 2024 auction summary 

The WPL 2024 auction, conducted in December 2023, witnessed intense bidding wars for standout players. Australian cricketer Annabel Sutherland, representing Capitals, and India uncapped talent Kaashvee Gautam from Giants, emerged as top earners with a substantial INR 2 crore each. Warriorz secured the services of uncapped Indian player Vrinda Dinesh for INR 1.3 crore, while Mumbai invested INR 1.2 crore in acquiring the skills of South African fast bowler Shabnim Ismail. Notably, Phoebe Litchfield earned a significant contract, being picked up by Giants for INR 1 crore.


Inaugural WPL 2023 key Moments:

In the inaugural WPL, Mumbai Indians, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, clinched the title by defeating Delhi Capitals in a one-sided final. Nat Sciver and Katherine Brunt played pivotal roles, with Brunt's unbeaten 55-ball 60 guiding Mumbai to a comfortable seven-wicket victory while chasing down the 132-run target.
